Terms of Service

Last updated 20 July 2026

The short version

This summary is a guide, not a substitute. The numbered terms below are what apply.

01Agreement

These terms are between you and ROMbug, based in Vermont, United States (“we”, “us”). They cover the ROMbug Earth application, the VPN service, and rombugearth.com.

By installing or using ROMbug Earth you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the software.

You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to buy a subscription.

02What you get

The browser

ROMbug Earth is free to download and use as a web browser, including the site-intelligence tools, the connection and certificate views, and the leak audit. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it.

The VPN

The VPN is an optional paid feature. When you subscribe, we issue you a licence key and provision a VPN account. Activating the VPN routes your computer's internet traffic through a server in the country you choose.

The VPN servers are operated by a contracted infrastructure partner. We are responsible to you for the service; that arrangement does not change your rights under these terms.

03Payment and renewal

The subscription is $4.99 per month in US dollars, charged through Stripe. It renews automatically each month until you cancel. We will tell you before the price changes for you.

Cancelling

Cancel at any time from the subscription page linked in your licence email, or by writing to support@rombugearth.com. Cancelling stops the next payment. Your VPN keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Refunds

If the VPN does not work for you, contact us within 14 days of your first payment and we will refund it. After that, payments are non-refundable, though you can cancel to stop future charges. Nothing here limits any refund right you have under the law where you live.

Failed payments

If a payment fails, we may suspend VPN access until it is resolved. Your licence key stays valid and access resumes once payment succeeds.

04Using the service properly

Your licence is for one person. Do not share, resell or publish your licence key. We may suspend a licence that appears to be shared.

You agree not to use ROMbug Earth to:

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches this section, and we may do so without notice where the breach is serious.

Your local law still applies. VPNs are restricted or illegal in some countries. It is your responsibility to know whether you may lawfully use one where you are.

05What the software does and does not do

We want to be straight about this, because VPN marketing often is not.

A VPN hides your IP address from the sites you visit and stops your network provider seeing which sites you connect to. That is genuinely useful, and it is what this product does.

It does not make you anonymous. You can still be identified by:

The leak audit in the app checks three specific ways a working VPN can still expose your real address — WebRTC, DNS and IPv6. It is a check on those three things, not a guarantee of anonymity.

The site-intelligence data the app shows — addresses, hosts, certificates, trust ratings — comes from public sources and automated checks. It is provided for information. Do not rely on it alone for a security decision.

06Availability

We aim to keep the service running but we do not promise uninterrupted availability. Servers, countries and capacity may change. Maintenance, outages at our infrastructure partner, and events outside our control can interrupt the service.

If the service is unavailable for a prolonged period, contact us and we will consider a credit or refund for the affected time.

07Third-party software

ROMbug Earth includes WireGuard, which carries the VPN tunnel, and components of the Chromium and Qt projects. These remain the property of their authors and are used under their own licences. Nothing in these terms affects your rights under those licences.

08Our intellectual property

ROMbug Earth, the ROMbug and ROMbug Earth names and logos, and the design of the application and this website belong to us. Buying a subscription gives you the right to use the software, not to copy, modify, reverse engineer or redistribute it, except where the law gives you that right regardless.

09Warranties and liability

The software is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profits or lost data.

Some places do not allow these limits. If you live somewhere that does not, they do not apply to you, and nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, or fraud.

10Ending the agreement

You may stop using the software at any time and cancel your subscription as described above.

We may end your access if you breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service. If we discontinue it, we will give reasonable notice and refund any period you have paid for but not received.

11Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will email active subscribers at least 14 days beforehand. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept it. If you do not, you may cancel.

12Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Vermont, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Vermont, and you and we agree to that jurisdiction.

If you live somewhere whose consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim locally, this section does not take that right away.

Before starting a formal dispute, please write to us. Most problems are quicker to fix by email.
